Who We Build Balcony Decking For in Chatham
Landlords typically want hard-wearing, compliant work with clear paperwork and minimal void time.
Full renovators want one team across multiple trades with a single point of contact.
Tailored to Chatham Homes
Post-war housing across Chatham and Gillingham often has concrete floors requiring SDS drilling for fixings
Access & logistics: Properties in Rochester High Street and Chatham town centre have restricted access — we plan deliveries for early morning and use smaller vehicles where necessary.
Seasonal tip: Medway's proximity to the Thames estuary means coastal humidity — we recommend moisture-resistant materials for kitchens and bathrooms, particularly in properties near the river.
Common Considerations for Medway Properties
- Concrete subfloors in post-war housing that need levelling compound before flooring
- Plasterboard walls in 1960s builds that struggle to support heavy wall units without reinforcement
- Narrow hallways in terraced houses requiring careful planning for staircase and storage work
Ask any of our customers near Gillingham High Street what they value most about working with us, and you'll hear the same things: punctuality, fair pricing, and properly finished decking work. We don't believe those should be rare qualities — but in this trade, they often are.
Step-by-Step: Our Decking Service
No guesswork on site. This is the order we work in on a balcony decking job in Chatham:
- 1
Garden Survey
We visit your garden, assess the ground conditions, and discuss your requirements — size, shape, levels, and material preference. Nothing at this stage is left to assumption on a Chatham job.
- 2
Decking Design
We create a design including dimensions, board direction, step positions, and any additional features like lighting or balustrades. We confirm this stage with you before moving on, every time in Chatham.
- 3
Ground Preparation
The area is cleared, levelled, and prepared with a weed membrane. Concrete pads or adjustable pedestals are positioned for the framework. We confirm this stage with you before moving on, every time in Chatham.
- 4
Framework Construction
A strong, level joist framework is constructed from treated timber, with proper spacing and ventilation for long-term durability. Nothing at this stage is left to assumption on a Chatham job.
- 5
Board Laying
Decking boards are laid with consistent spacing, secured with screws or hidden clips, and trimmed neatly at all edges. You get a straight update at the end of this stage.
- 6
Finishing & Extras
Steps, fascia boards, balustrades, and lighting are installed. The deck is cleaned and any staining or oiling is applied. We photograph this stage so you can see the work even if you are out.
Access and parking in Chatham are agreed before we start, so nothing stalls mid-job.

FAQs From Real Customers
Which streets and villages near Chatham do you cover?
As well as Chatham itself, we regularly work in Rochester, Gillingham, Strood. It is all inside the Medway Council area, so there is no travel charge on top of your balcony decking quote.
Will balcony decking suit an older property in Chatham?
A lot of Chatham housing is Edwardian townhouse and post-war semi, where walls are rarely square and floors rarely level. We scribe and pack rather than force a fit, which is why balcony decking in older ME4 homes needs measuring on site rather than ordering off a plan.
What does a balcony decking quote for Chatham include?
Labour, materials, fixings, waste removal and VAT where it applies, all itemised. We price Chatham jobs after seeing the property, so the figure accounts for access, parking around ME4 and the condition of what is already there.
How do you waterproof a balcony deck in Chatham?
We install a GRP or EPDM waterproof membrane beneath the decking boards, with proper falls to drainage outlets. This prevents water penetration to the structure below.
What decking material is best for balconies in Chatham?
Lightweight composite decking is ideal for balconies as it doesn't absorb water, won't rot, and doesn't add excessive weight. It also requires no annual treatment.

Yes — we incorporate drainage gaps between boards and install channel drains at the perimeter to manage rainwater effectively and prevent pooling.
