Preparing a room before the carpenter arrives

The night before checklist

None of it takes long and all of it helps.

• Clear the wall we are working on, plus about a metre in front of it.
• Move fragile and valuable items out of the room entirely.
• Take down pictures and mirrors on adjoining walls, because fixing work carries vibration.
• Lift rugs and clear the route from the front door to the room.
• Make sure a working socket is reachable, and tell us if the room has no power.
• Check parking, permits and any restrictions, and tell us in advance if it is difficult.

Decisions to have made in advance

The commonest cause of a paused job is a decision that has not been taken. Handle style and height, shelf heights, which way a door swings, where a TV sits on a media wall and whether sockets need moving are all quicker to settle before the day than during it.

If you are unsure, say so at the quote stage and we will make a recommendation you can approve.

Pets, children and noise

Tell us about pets so doors are kept shut and nothing escapes. If someone in the house works from home or a baby naps in the afternoon, tell us at booking and we will sequence the loud work around it where the job allows.

What we bring, so you do not have to

Dust sheets and floor protection, tools, fixings, waste bags and the materials listed in your quote. We clear up at the end of each day rather than leaving the room unusable overnight.
